The relocation of the airbase to Changi was announced in the National Day Rally of 2013. In 1981, Paya Lebar Airport was converted into an army airbase.

The path can be repurposed into the town’s “main spine”, and turned into “an environment-friendly connector” or community room expanding from one end of the community to the other.

The runway stretches 3.8 km throughout the Paya Lebar Airbase. According to Lee, it is aligned along the direction of dominating winds, for airplane to stay clear of crosswinds when they take off and land. The future community can be oriented in the same direction, which will make the town normally breezy, he includes.

” It will certainly be a unique and attractive heritage attribute, unique to Paya Lebar,” says Lee.

The moving of the airbase will also suggest a few of the structure height limitations around it can be raised. This implies, neighbouring communities such as Hougang, Marine Parade or Punggol can be redeveloped, with more amenities included and also better use room.

” It will certainly not happen overnight,” says Lee. “But over years, we can totally reimagine the Eastern part of Singapore.”.

The path extends 3.8 km across the Paya Lebar Airbase.

The relocation of the airbase will certainly also mean several of the building height restrictions around it can be raised
Public as well as private housing can remain on both sides of the back, with services and leisure locations nearby. Commercial as well as industrial developments can also be located close by, to bring work closer to houses. (Find Singapore industrial properties with our business directory site).
